The Commonwealth Games is a multinational, multi-sport event. Held every four years, it involves the elite athletes of the Commonwealth of Nations. The first such event, then known as the British Empire Games, was held in 1920. The name changed to British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954, to British Commonwealth Games in 1970 and assumed the current name of the Commonwealth Games in 1978.

Les Jeux du Commonwealth sont une compétition multi sports où se rencontrent les meilleurs sportifs des nations membres du Commonwealth. La première édition eut lieu en 1930 sous le nom de Jeux de l'Empire Britannique. La compétition change de nom en 1954 et devient les Jeux de l'Empire Britannique et du Commonwealth puis Jeux du Commonwealth Britannique en 1970 pour enfin adopter le nom actuel en 1978.
